Thanks for the giveaway!

Yay!!! So glad you could be apart of the class... I must admit i dont wash!! Although.. Maybe after reading your post i will?? xx Thanks Leanne, Bec xx
I am a follower xx
I have just come over from Rebecca's to say hi. No I don't wash but I sometimes feel guilty that I don't because I know other people do. I am finding this Quilting Class so useful thanks for taking the time to help others, and thanks for the chance to win.
I am a new follower.
Nope I never wash first, don't know why, just lazy me thinks!!
I am already a follower
I never wash first - it creates work upfront!!!
I always wash because when I first started quilting my tutor told me to always wash the fabric first. It just became part of the process.
I started to wash, then laziness took over, and eagerness to start cutting! So now I don't
I do not wash first. I have so many fabrics, that to go back and wash my stash would be a HUGE job. And my studio is away from my home, so it just means more waiting. I don't like to wait!
I loved your feature. Thank you - I always wash and press my fabric.
I don't wash, you taught me not to. Don't worry, you don't have to enter me in the giveaway, I'm just here to give you the extra comment (like you'll need it!). I think I was your first follower ever. Yay me!
Have fun Sis! xo
I don't usually prewash, usually just throw a color catcher in the wash! :)
I'm also a follower :)
I'm new to quilter so I don't really know what I do yet! But I think I'll lean towards not washing because I'm impatient lol.
I've only ever washed first, but want to try my next project without to see which I like better. I can never iron my fabrics as flat and smooth as they are prior to washing!
I'm a new follower to your blog. Thanks for the giveaway!
I wash most all of my fabrics first. The only time I haven't is a BOM that I receive each month in the mail. Thanks for the opportunity to enter your great giveaway!
I am a regular follower of your blog.
I don't wash, but always after I'm done... the only fabric I wash first is if I'm making a quilt out of old clothes or T-shirts.
I'm a brand new follower via Google Friend Connect!
Love the class. I do not wash prior to sewing because I really enjoy the extreme crinkles you get after quiting.
Just popped over from Rebecca's at Chasing Cottons. I used to wash my fabrics when using yardage, never wash precuts though. Lately, I haven't been prewashing. I haven't experienced any problems.
Hello! Thank you for this wonderful giveaway! I wash all my fabrics before sewing. I use also very much old shirts, sheets etc. so if I mix there new fabric I can't know how they change together in the washing. If all the fabric is new, it could be nice shabby result after washing the finished quilt.
Sunny wishes from Crete! Teje

I don't wash it too coz I love the smell of a brand new fabric.

I normally wash, but I've never really bought quality fabrics. I just got my first quality line of Riley Blake and I didn't wash it before starting this quilt. After it's all done and washed, we'll see if I regret that (hoping I don't!).
I'm a follower now. Love your quilting.
Don't wash. I'm too lazy. :)
would love to win that fat quarter set!
zucchinisummer (at) gmail (dot) com
I don't prewash any of my quilting fabrics but I do prewash flannel if I am using it as a backing or batting.
I don't wash, but I'm working on a quilt right now that I'm slightly nervous over...hopefully the no washing doesn't come back to get me!
Thanks for the giveaway and great tips!
I've always washed, but maybe I won't next time. I hate ironing....
I become a follower - you have great tips too! TFS
I do not wash my fabrics I've never had luck with washing them first.
sandytoesbride at gmail dot com
In the past, I've prewashed, thinking I must, but now knowing many don't, I'm going to try not prewashing and see what happens. :)
I do not wash first.
I don't wash first. Thanks for the chance!

I wash my fabric before it goes into my sewing room.

I always wash unless I'm using a precut (which is rare) and I have been known to prewash those if I want to add in fabric from my stash which is all washed. Thanks for the giveaway!
I do not wash but that is because, I do not own a washer or dryer and it would be too expensive to wash.
I just became a follower of your blog and I love how cheerful it is.

I'm a follower! P.S. I also always wash my fabric, both new and in a quilt, with at least two colour catcher sheets - don't know how I managed without them!
I'm a new quilter and so far, I've always prewashed (because that's what I was told to do). Reading all these comments of people who do not prewash may sway me though! It's always hard to wait for the wash to be done when you really want to cut into that fabric :)
I'm a new follower!
I don't wash first. I love the crinked effect after the quilt get washed!
I don't prewash, generally speaking.
I occasionally buy or am given fabric with questionable lineage, and that gets prewashed. If I'm worried, into the washer it goes. If it is premium quilting fabric, it goes straight to the cutting table.
I just became a follower, love what I have seen.
I wash almost all my fabric. If I am using precuts I do not wash any. I have not seen a real difference, other then I think unwashed is easier to get good cuts from.
becky.mb@comcast.net
I would love to be considered for the bundle of fat quarters. I tend to NOT pre-wash my fabrics - except for flannelette.
Forgot to leave my address when I commented - am anxious to follow your blog.
I don't prewash my fat quarters if I am using a pattern that requires almost the whole 18 X 21. If it is a solid that I think is going to bleed I prewash.
I've done both, but most of the time I don't wash my fabric first. Thanks for the giveaway!

I don't normally wash unless I am recycling fabric from something (tee-shirt, sheets...) Great topic!

Thanks for the Quilting 101 Lesson.
I usually wash when I get it home but sometimes (depending on the project) I am lazy and don't ; 0.
What pretty fabric! I have no choice - I have to wash because I'm allergic to the sizing. It's really nasty if I don't. :(
And I'm already a follower. :D
I have always washed. Just used a charm pack for the first time and of course didn't wash it - I'm nervous. Thanks for a chance.
I am a new follower. Thanks again.
I always wash! Love your blog!
I don't wash. I probably should, but then I get too excited to get started.
I'm a new follower :)
I used to wash but I much prefer working with unwashd fabric, its so much easier to cut and work with. So now, unless its red, or purple, or deep pink or something likely to run, I don't wash if I can help it.
And I'm a new follower :-)
I am a follower
I don't wash quilt fabrics, but do with clothing fabrics.
I used to wash all fabrics but now I'm selective, ie. no for crafts like bags, yes to red fabrics for large quilts. Love the info on your blog!
Oh, yes, I always wash. After having a HUGE amount of uneven shrinkage of my second quilt, I wash everything - including jelly rolls. I usually wash yardage when I buy it, but wash FQs just before I am going to use them.
I don't wash, and I'm so glad someone else says it's okay!
Following you now, and I've posted your giveaway over at http://www.craftbuds.com/giveaway-roundup/
I'm a new follower and new at quilting.....but I have always been told to wash before cutting...yay it's ok not to wash anymore!!!
mickndonna@ozemail.com.au
I always wash! It can be frustrating when you are really keen to start, but saves any disasters after all that work has been done on the quilt.
Cheers
Kathy
I never wash first and have never had a problem...touch wood!! Thanks for the chance to win this lovely little bundle!!Take care!
Paulette
I wash reds...on others I usually don't.
I do not wash my fabric.
I do not wash first, and it always works out -- but I do not get any iffy fabrics!

I have to wash. I learned to wash when I learned to sew clothing & can't stop. lol
When I first started quilting, I washed a fat eighth bundle all together and it was a NIGHTMARE! It took me DAYS to untangle and iron out all the wrinkles. Since then the only time I have prewashed is when I used a large piece of flannel for a back because I know flannel shrinks a lot.
Don't wash but I am only working on my first quilt. Would love to know more about it so I look forward to your post.
I am a new follower of your blog
I go halfsies-wash some, don't wash others. I think it depends on the color and size of the fabric. Thanks!
Yardage I wash, FQ and less do not wash
Thank you for the giveaway - found you thru chasingcotton quilting 101 - I now follow your blog! mlwright29(at)hotmail(dot)com is alternate email address
When I buy a kit, I do not wash. Block of the month - I do not wash. BUT when I plan a quilt and really think about all the details that should go into it, including deciding which fabrics I should go to buy, then I wash. Thanks for the giveaway.
I became your follower. Thanks for the giveaway.
I am a new follower!!
I pre-wash all my yardage, but not layer cakes or charm packs. I have been caught with colours that run, so it is pre-washing all the time!! Thanks for the giveaway!
some things I prewash, some things I dont...depends on the project, Quilt yardage, absolutly :-) Thanks for a chance to win a great giveaway!
I'm a new quilter and all my yardages are pre-washed though I've been told by some there is no need to wash but I worry about shrinkage. Will be looking forward to the post and thanks for this great giveaway.
I agree I do prewash some things, especially reds....or at least I get a corner wet to see if it will bleed. I always wash my quilts with a Shout color grabber and have not had any issues!
i pre-wash thos fabrics I am suspicious will run, like some blacks and reds...but trust my luck with others
I wash when I buy my fabric so I don't have to worry about it when it comes time to create something. If I use jelly rolls or any other pre-cuts, I buy material that I will not wash to go with it. That way all the material will be washed at the same time.
Does that make sense?
Hello i'm new quilter and new follower too !
I wash or not .... good answer isn't ir ???
I always wash yardage...and smaller pieces (that I get each month for our Saturday Sampler blocks) I soak in the basin before beginning.
I have always pre-washed, but lately for smaller projects I am forgoing the washing. However, I made a tablerunner recently and found that the red was going to bleed! Big time mess as it was to be a gift :-S Thanks for the generous giveaway.
mmm...ok...no wash...i love material unwashed...its just so new...what can i say...xxx
ok...now a follower and thanks for th great prize up for grabs...xxx
Larger fabrics are washed and line dried - smaller pieces don't as they tend to distort shape too much. But all my quilts/quited pieces get a wash and dry before they go
I hate to prewash and generally do not, unless they are red. I have learned the hard way that reds need to be prewashed. Unfortunately, I am very drawn to red. LOL! Thanks for the opportunity to win.
I do NOT prewash, but I do use Shout Color Catcher every time on the finished quilt.
Now a follower, and great post!
Never wash first, it's against my religion! ;)

Following! Yay!!! Love finding fun, new blogs. :)
I don't wash. I am excited to read more about the wash vs pre-wash though. I always love new insights :)
I am one of your newest followers and am so happy to have found your blog :)
I am too excited too get started to wash!
i don't wash unless it is for a swap that requires it. Love these cheery fabrics. thanks for the chance.
this is my first visit to ;your blog - i like it so i am now a follower.
I always wash my fabrics. Often I wash them by hand and when I see the amount of dye that is in the water it makes me afraid to not wash. Sure would save a lot of time (and help my water bill) to not wash, but so many fabrics bleed that I just have to wash them.
Nope, I don't wash!!
I do not prewash my fabric; I think I am just lazy. However, if I am making clothing for my baby, I will prewash since I don't want to find out it shrinks after she wears it the first time.
I'm a new follower!! And glad to be one, I might add!
I try to prewash all my fabric for fear of dye running. I don't always buy the most expensive fabrics.. so I'm not sure of the qualities of the dyes used.. I try to cover myself by pre-washing.
Prewash, definitely!
Following -
Sometimes I prewash and sometimes I don't... it all depends on the quality of the fabric. Awesome giveaway - would be perfect for a spring project!!
I do not wash first. I tried it a couple of times and ended up with a lot of raveled threads and THEN, I had to iron all the fabric. Now I just take my chances and do not wash.
I am now a follower of your blog.
I'm a new follower - I don't wash but feel guilty because I know I should...but am so tempted to just start right in!
I'm a follower of your blog
I don't wash my fabrics unless it's for a baby/child and I know the quilt will be washed. Otherwise, I'm in too much of a hurry to start cutting and sewing!
I do wash, but I have heard so many people say that they don't that I am considering giving it a try.
Yes I wash. Most of the time. Sometimes I just can't wait. I know that's bad. I have to pick one or the other. Thanks for a chance to win.
Hi. :) I was sent here by Stray Stitches. I usually pre-wash yardage but not usually anything smaller than a quarter yard. However, if I am making something some of the fabric is already washed, I wash everything. Hope that makes sense! Thanks for the chance to win!
In my first quilting classes I was taught to always prewash and iron all fabric first...since I totally dislike ironing and am really no good at it, I no longer prewash...I like the smoothness that unwashed fabric offers. Lisa in Texas
Hi, I am now a follower...I love your work...you do beautiful work. Lisa in Texas
Yes, I wash! It is usually to give me more time to appreciate and fondle the fabrics before I cut into them. Also "old" teaching that it is best to wash to remove excess dyes and realign the threads in the fabric.
It depends on the fabric but from me a heavy steam iron does the trick!!! Cherie
I wash (most of the time!).
I don't wash when i know I'm using the fabrics for a wall quilt. Always wash when I'm making a quilt as a gift because I want to be able to say with assurance that the quilt can be washed and dried. So some of my scraps are prewashed, some not. Now that I'm involved in some swaps and occasionally charity quilts, I feel I should always prewash. I take the fabrics out of the dryer when still a bit damp and put them on a rack or press them right away. Congrats on your Chasing Cottons feature, and thanks.
I'm a follower. Thanks again.
I don't wash - most of the time. I do always wash if I'm sewing with flannel. Have a wonderful evening!
Nope don't wash just cut and sew...Thank you for sharing.
I always wash first it ends up being more work but can save a big mess latter!
I'm waiting on my material in the post for my first quilt, but at this stage I am not intending to wash first.
Hi, I'm a new follower.
Hi , jumping over from Chasing Cottons. I always wash and dry my fabric before I sew children's clothes....as for quilts, well I have never made one before....looking forward to reading on to find out what to do. Love the give away fabric!
I am now following your blog :)
I don't wash. Sometimes I wish I did when I finish a quilt, but with trowing some extra colorcatchers in the machine it always turns out right.
I am a follower of your blog.
I wash the material before I start. It removes the sizing and I couldn't bear the thought of colours running in the wash. Freshly ironed material feels beautiful and is as easy to cut as unwashed material. Thanks for the chance.
I am now following you.
I don't wash either, but I am grateful for the knowledge that it keeps the bugs away too. Thanks!
I'm a follower now too!
I am following as blossompetal
I do wash.
I don't wash as I like the feel of the new fabric and want to get started. So glad to find I was doing something right
I'm a follower too!
I don't normally prewash my fabrics. Although... I've just bought 2 very bright bold fabrics (homespun) to make a drunkards path quilt which I think I will wash.
Wouldn't it be awful to have the perfect colour combination happening then to wash it and have it all seep into itself. Yikes!
I'm a new follower of your blog. I look forward to having a look around :-)
Hi, I just came over from Chasing Cottons, thanks for the advice, I don't wash first either! Great giveaway, thank you :o)
Loved reading your post about pre-wash or not..... I used to pre-wash but lately I just cut into and sew without washing (unless I have a red or dark blue fabric that just begs to be rinsed) -- I always include a packet of colour catchers with any quilt that I gift to someone and I always give washing instructions on the label of the quilt. I am always amazed that others do not know about colour catchers..... I use them in just about every load of my washing... quilts or not!!
Lovely give-away too!!!
I'm a new follower and look forward to reading all about your quilting.
My early quilt classes taught us to wash, but I've learned to take it easy and just wash the the evil reds and darks and use a lot of color catchers!!
I'm a NON washer ;). Thanks for a great give away!
And I just became a follower.
Thanks for such a helpful post!
I used to wash every little thing and then I quit and now I only wash what I think really needs it! Thanks for a chance to win!
I am a follower!
I have never completed a quilt but I think I will be a non washer!! Thanks
I'm a non-washer for quilting. But I always pre wash for clothing! ;)
I am a follower now!
I wash if the instructions say to do so...I'm a rule follower :). But after reading this, maybe I'll be more of a rebel.
Depends where my fabric is from, if I bought it 2nd hand from an Op-Shop or Garage sale, it is washed.
Otherwise I don't tend to wash, I did at one stage so some of my stash is unwashed and other parts are washed.
I have also become a follower.
I do not pre-wash most fabrics, except, as you said on the blog, when it's deep dark colors or hand-dyes. Interesting blog, made me re-think this washing thing. Maybe I'll just buy pre-cuts so I can't pre-wash -- yeah, that's it!
I do not wash but I have to be honest it comes from nothing more than sheer laziness. I have never had a problem though. The idea of washing and pressing all my fabric seems like another chore. UGH
I am a new follower
Beautiful fabrics!!! I'd love to have them :)
and I don't wash fabrics before use, I do it in the end ;)
and I am a new follower :))
I'm always looking for new opinions and reasons why to wash/not wash fabrics. Thank you.
I work with lots of vintage finds and therefore MUST wash, but for smell and uckiness reasons. (Posted a blog entry about this not too long ago.) For new fabrics, especially chiffons and other delicates, I usually do not wash prior to sewing. My only big exception is for clothing. I ALWAYS wash pre-wash fabric if I'm making clothes with it, for shrinkage issues.
~ Carey
And now I'm a new follower of your blog! :)
I don't wash the fabric first.
I'm now a follower!
I don't wash fabric unless it is really dark...I sell my quilts;want them to look new; so, I do tell them to wash them first...
I am signing up now to follow your blog....thank you for the chance
I wash, because my mom always did... maybe its not worth it :)
I enjoyed your post, great tips. I also prefer to work with fabric before it is washed for the most part. If I am making a garment I do tend to prewash in case of shrinkage.
Brand New Follower via Google Reader!
and, I just clicked follow on your blog! Fun to have a new blog to follow, thanks
I came back. I joined. I now follow. hehehe!!
To Wash or not to wash... Great article. For me, I do not wash any new fabric. If it came in a precut, or off of a bolt, I do not wash.
I get a lot of fabric by buying and cutting up old shirts at second hand shops... Those ALWAYS get washed, straight from the bag to the washing machine, the only thing I do is cut off the tags.
I also do not store "used" fabric with "new" fabric. They are in separate bins. I'll intermix within a quilt, but I do not store them together...
Great article!
Paul

I'm a newbie to sewing but i hate knitting swatches so i can't imagine i'll want to pre wash!Though Leanne's advice sound good.
I've been a follower for a couple of days now!Enjoying all this wonderful advice.
I'm afraid I'm one of the great unwashed!
Thanks for the info on wash/not washing. great info! I do not wash! Thanks for the chance to win. love the fabric. Allison gougeonathome@charter.net
I am now a follower of your blog... I just read several posts. Your quilting is beautiful, and I would bet that most quilters don't know what they really have in their stash.
Thanks for the opportunity,

Hi there. I'm here from Chasing Cottons. I never wash. I tried it once and it made cutting and sewing much more difficult. Never again! :)
I'm following you now as well. Cheers.
I just started sewing and your article about to wash or not to wash was very useful. I will definitely wash after finishing my project!
Sabby
Great insights. I usually don't prewash, but it's a good idea to wash finished project.
